                                                                                                     Senior Yearbook Portraits

Your senior portrait is the high school portrait record of you for posterity and it also records a rite of passage that your family will want  for  the family album.  You will be extremely pleased with portraits created by Pete Hyland Photography and by taking advantage of my low overhead you'll also SAVE 30 to 50% without sacrificing quality one bit.   My overhead is low because a) I have no employees, b) I don't have to pay rent on a high profile location, c) I don't spend tens of thousands of dollars on advertising, and  d)  I don't have an inventory of frames, albums, etc. all of which you have to pay for.  Yes, you CAN have the portraits you were hoping for but thought you couldn't afford.   Saving 30 to 50% is not a slogan, it's a reality and has been since 1980.

All outdoor photos are taken in my outdoor studio which surrounds my studio.  I've been grooming it since 1980 and it's got everything.  You can even drive your car right in and pose with it, or pose with your dog, or your boy/girlfriend or your guitar, hockey stick, letter jacket, siblings, grandparents, etc.

The photo that goes to the yearbook staff is free for orders totaling a minimum of $300 (for orders under $300 the image submitted to the yearbook is $15.)    You will receive 8 FREE WALLETS if you place an order within five days.  Your "proofs" will be online within a few hours of your sitting.  You will receive an email containing the link to the website hosting your images.

A word about the "preferred" or "recommended" studio lists that many schools publish.  Frequently  schools list only those photographers who purchase ads in their yearbooks, which is certainly their right.  However, parents may not know this and thus may presume that a studio's quality is the primary reason for inclusion on the list.  By limiting my advertising I lower my overhead and thus your cost.  Schools accept photos from ALL studios as long as they meet the deadlines and submit photos with the proper specifications.  I have had a wonderful working relationship with over 25 high schools in the south metro area for many many years.  And speaking of schools, many schools (but not all) charge a "color fee" to have the seniors' photos in color in the yearbook.   They ask the studio to collect the fee ($10 to $20 usually) and submit the fee WITH the photo.  Therefore the school's fee (if there is one) will be part of your bill.

1929.  Stock Market crash!  Depression follows.    2009, deja vu.  So, what to do?  Save 30 to 50% on your Senior Portrait, that's what to do.  Since 1980 I've been providing high quality Senior Portraits at a fraction of the "going rate".  Can you afford $900 for your senior portrait?  Right!  Nobody can.  At Pete Hyland Photography you'll get top notch professional portraits without paying anywhere near $900., not even half that.  How can I do it?  Low overhead, no employees, no studio lease and almost no advertising, all those things you'll be paying for at other studios.  You've been frugal up to now so why stop.  Saving 30-50% is guaranteed at Pete Hyland Photography.    A '70s auto dealership used to advertise with this slogan, "drive a little, save a lot".  True, I'm not that close to Northglenn High School but wouldn't you drive 30 minutes to save $300?

Clothing suggestions for your senior portrait session.

Allow about (?) minutes for your sitting.-(see "sitting fees", below)   You may change clothes as many times as you wish. You are welcome to bring along a parent or a friend and you are free to have others in some of your poses with you.  It's a good idea to avoid shorts and short skirts as you'll probably be setting your foot up on something in some poses but it's your portrait so all suggestions are just that.

Short sleeve or sleeveless shirts look fine on some people but not on everyone so that's something to think about too.  Shoes are seldom seen in the photos so you can wear something comfortable and not have to worry about styles.  As far as clothing styles and colors go it's entirely up to you.

Jewelry should be on your list of things to consider; or not.  Again, it's up to you.  And makeup is up to you also but try to avoid a lot of lip gloss as it seems to shine excessively and becomes distracting instead of flattering.

Boys should wear tee shirts with V necks so that they don't show underneath shirts with open collars.  Any clothing that was purchased very recently should be washed and ironed before the sitting to avoid creases that are always present in new clothing.  Sweaters, being a fall season item, are usually not thought of in summer but they provide a whole new look and so should be at least considered.

Girls with long hair should consider wearing it in several ways to add variety to the photos.  For boys, a coat and tie for just one photo will provide you with a formal portrait you can use for a variety of purposes such as job/college applications, etc.   It's always nice to have at least one such portrait on hand.

"Letter" jackets from school, team uniforms, etc. also add variety to your set of proofs.  You can actually wear them or just have them in the background.  Along those lines you might consider your musical instrument, family pet, sports gear, hobby tools, boy/girl friend, siblings, car, etc. to add some individuality to your poses.  Only one of the whole set of poses is going into the yearbook so frequently seniors will have some fun with one or two poses.

If you wear glasses you should have your optometrist remove the lenses (if possible) to avoid glare.  Retouching can remove such glare but it's more economical to avoid it in the first place if possible.  Facial retouching is also available a la carte;  I make it a la carte because if you don't need it you shouldn't have to pay for it.  (And believe it or not an amazing number of teenagers don't need it.)  But if needed the lab can remove blemishes for $15 per pose.  (Removing scars, tattoos, nose rings, braces, etc. is extra.)

Packages:  I've done away with my Packages and here's why.  When I was using film I was producing negatives and negatives needed to be "handled" at the lab.  The less they were handled the more savings the lab passed on to the studio (me).  Therefore I passed on the savings to my customers (you).  But with digital photography there is no "handling" of anything and so the need to "save money" by having the lab utilize their "package printers" is a thing of the past (package printers printed multiple sizes from the same negative without touching the negative each time the size changed).     But saving money is never a thing of the past so I'm offering Discounts in the place of my old packages.  You can still save money but today it's keyed to your total invoice.  See the table below.  And now, without the restrictions that "packages" placed on ordering, you can order any number of any sizes and not have to "fit" your order into a preset "package".

Sitting Fees:   2 poses outdoors = $25 (approx. 15 min)      5 poses outdoors=$35 (30 min.)    8 poses outdoors= $45 (45 min.)  10 poses outdoors=$50 (1 hour)     15 poses outdoors=$60 (90 min.)  {For combined outdoor and indoor poses add $10.}

64 / $94.72 / $98.80 / $101.88 / $104.96 / $107.104 / $110.112 / $113.120 / $120.

Wallets can have your first name only or first name and year imprinted for $5/pose.

RETOUCHING is $15. extra per pose.  It's a la carte because you shouldn't have to pay for something you don't need, and it's been my experience that 7 out of 10 seniors don't need it.    But if you do want a pose retouched we will  remove blemishes for $15 per pose.   Scars, braces, tattoos, nose rings, etc. are extra.  (Example:  Braces removal is $25.)

TEXTURING and FINISHES:  Various types of texturing can be applied to your finished prints such as canvas, portrait, linen and palette knife.   Luster and Matte sprays are also available, all at extra cost.  However most seniors and their parents seem to be quite satisfied with the standard finish and for that there is NO EXTRA CHARGE.  I won't try to talk you into a fancy finish that you really don't need but if you wish to match a print to one you already own I have samples of all finishes and you can see for yourself which one comes closest to your print.

DISPLAY FOLIO SPECIALS:    2 4x5s in a leather-like display folio = $48.
